      • Our Mission

Our purpose as a church is to glorify God as a community of Christ-followers
who cultivate Gospel-centered and vital community in and for Hillsborough.

        Gospel-Centered Community

In preaching, teaching, and the regular life of the church we will be based out of Scripture and aiming at explaining and understanding the gospel of Jesus Christ.

        Vital Community

As a community, growing disciples who make more disciples is the goal. Every member of our church will know others and be known in the context of loving community that points each other towards the Lord.

        In and for Hillsborough

We understand that our context is intentional and important; the town of Hillsborough and our regular spheres of influence are the primary mission field of Hillsborough Community Church. While local context will remain our pivot foot, we will not neglect other state, national and global mission priorities.

        Our Vision

To those ends, our vision is that Hillsborough Community Church would be a light in our community so that the people and culture of Hillsborough and beyond are transformed in the name of Jesus.

        Malcolm Pettigrew,

        Lead Pastor/Elder

Malcolm serves Hillsborough Community Church as the Lead Pastor.

Malcolm met his wife, Kelly, while working at Sky Ranch, a Christian summer camp in Texas. They have four kids.

Malcolm grew up in Cincinnati, OH, graduated from the University of Kentucky (B.A.), and completed his M.A. in Biblical and Theological Studies with a concentration in exegesis from Western Seminary.

Malcolm served from 2012-2021 as Youth Minister at Chapel Hill Bible Church, transitioning to Pastoral Resident and preparing to plant Hillsborough Community Church late in 2021.

The Pettigrews love Hillsborough – its geography, its history, its unique character, and especially its people. Malcolm is passionate about planting deep roots here that, Lord willing, will result in many years of slow and faithful growth in the gospel; for individuals, families, and the town as a whole. For fun, you’ll probably find the Pettigrews outside enjoying camping, fishing, hunting, or barbecuing something in the backyard with friends.

        Scott Thompson,

        Elder

Scott and Kristen have been together since high school and have been married for 15 years. Scott loves being a girl dad to their four young daughters.

Scott and Kristen currently live in Durham and are prayerfully seeking to move to Hillsborough as soon as possible. They have attended and served at Chapel Hill Bible Church since 2013 and are thrilled for the opportunity to be a part of Hillsborough Community Church. Professionally, Scott is the Director of Landscaping and Grounds at Duke University.

After coming to faith in young adulthood, intentional and multi-generational relationships have been the primary means that the Lord has used to disciple and mature Scott. Also, having grown up in a small town in eastern North Carolina, the Thompsons understand the value of knowing and being known by those in their local community. This makes them eager to return to small town life and invest deeply in the people and town of Hillsborough. Scott loves to play golf, go fishing, smoke meat, tend his backyard garden, and he enjoys learning new skills to take on creative home projects.

      • What We Believe

Hillsborough Community Church is an autonomous church committed to contending for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints (Jude 1:3). The basic doctrines within Hillsborough Community Church’s Statement of Faith represent what we believe to be core elements of Biblical teaching.

        On Security, Assurance, & Responsibility

        On the Church

        On the Return of Jesus

On Death & the Eternal State

      • Sunday Worship

At Hillsborough Community Church we want people to grow as disciples of Jesus, engage in life-giving community, and to love & serve each other and Hillsborough all for the glory of God. While most of that doesn’t happen on Sundays, we believe our weekly gathered worship is vital as a regular means of shaping our community towards those goals. When we gather each week our worship is shaped by four primary things: singing songs, preaching from God’s word, prayer, and receiving the Lord’s supper.

        Kids at Hillsborough Community Church

        Infants - 6 years

We want families and kids to know that children are valued in every aspect of our worship. For families who want their kids to be in the service, know that children aren’t just tolerated, they’re welcome! Kids Ministry is also offered for kids from infants-6 years old with age-appropriate Bible teaching.

        Where We Meet

We meet on Sundays at 4 pm at an existing church in Hillsborough called Mars Hill Baptist.

        Join a Community Group.

We believe that one of the most irreducible and effective structures for discipleship, vital community, and being on mission in and for Hillsborough is a Community Group. This is a smaller group of people who will meet in different neighborhoods in and around Hillsborough.

Our vision is that everyone at Hillsborough Community Church will truly be the body of Christ for each other and Hillsborough through our Community Groups. These groups will be forming in the Fall of 2022.
